I posted a little bit of an update a few days ago, but thought I’d share a few of the practical things that have happened in the last couple of months.
1. We’ve had visitors. In January my mom spoiled us by coming again and this time she brought her sister, Trish, whose name I share. We so enjoyed having them around and sharing the country with Aunt Trish. They treated us to a couple of nights away in the beautiful Drakensberg Mountains as well as a guided safari ride and a visit to a cheetah breeding center. A cheetah sucked my thumb!
Now we have the lovely EWF director, Christine, and her family with us for three weeks. It makes for a busy but fun house and is a great opportunity for our families to reconnect after a year apart.
2. We welcomed a baby into our South African ‘family’. Robert and Zandile have become dear friends of ours here at Emmanuel’s Wish Foundation. They already have two boys and welcomed a third this past Saturday. What a joy!
3. We continue to change schedules and make things work better. For the past ten months we have been meeting as a staff once a month for a lunch and social time together. In January, we decided to change that and have moved it to a Wednesday afternoon that allows everyone to come and we’ve combined it with a monthly staff meeting, inservice and team building time. So far it’s working well!
4. We’ve continued to plug away at painting and updating the Comfort Home. A reveal is coming soon, I promise!
5. We’ve been able to secure a computer and Duncan plans on starting some computer training with the leadership team here so that hopefully they will feel comfortable on a computer and be able to take on some of the administrative work of their area (Outreach, Comfort Home, Creche) themselves. Duncan’s pumped about this and has already introduced Robert to PowerPoint so now weekly bible studies are a lot more interesting!
6. For the first time in our family, we are losing teeth instead of gaining them. This is very exciting for a certain seven year old!
